During pregnancy, a lot of changes happen to the body to allow for the growth of the baby inside the womb. And one of the changes can be gaining weight tremendously. Weight gain is important during pregnancy, but just a considerable amount.

When it comes to working out during pregnancy, a lot of women fear physical activities because they think that it can harm their babies. The following are ways to keep you fit during pregnancy;

  1. Exercise

The last thing a majority of women want to think about during pregnancy is exercise. This is because of nausea, lack of energy, loss of appetite that they may be experiencing. But exercise during pregnancy is of utmost importance. It has the following benefits;

  • It minimizes pregnancy related problems such as back pains, constipation, swelling of the feet etc.
  • It increases your energy level
  • It prevents excess weight gain
  • It helps you to prepare yourself for labor and recover from pregnancy quickly.

The exercise which can be done during pregnancy includes;

  • Jogging
  • Swimming

But make sure that you choose the exercise that you love and enjoy doing, don’t force yourself to swim if you hate it.

  1. Diet

During pregnancy, women should eat a healthy and,well-balanced diet. This is important because the health of the baby will depend on what the mother feeds on.

You should try to avoid sweets and junk carbohydrates such as bread, pasta, and baked products in packets as they will be broken into sugar in your body.Take proteins such as beef, chicken, fruits, and vegetables such as broccoli and raspberries. Dairy products such as yogurt and cheese and recommended.

If you’re not able to eat because of nausea or vomiting due to morning sickness, then you can consult your doctor or nutritionist.

  1. Water

You should drink plenty of water during pregnancy. Water helps dehydrate your body, and dehydration can reduce the level of tiredness and nausea during pregnancy. Water can help you maintain your fitness.

You should drink at least 15 cups of water a day to stay hydrated and sustain your pregnancy.

  1. Sleep and rest

This is very important during pregnancy. Make sure you’ve enough rest and sleep. The body relaxes and improves when you sleep. You should sleep for at least 8 hours.

Take some time off and rest because you need to remember that you have a baby growing inside you and now you need much more rest than usual.

  1. Avoid alcoholic drinks and tobacco

Avoid taking alcoholic drinks because they’re harmful to you and your unborn baby. They can also hinder your efforts of staying fit. Smoking is bad during pregnancy because it can expose your unborn child to conditions such as low-birth rate or respiratory diseases.
